Here are some steps to grow ginger from a store-bought root:
- Choose a fresh and plump ginger root that has several buds or eyes on it. You can cut the root into smaller pieces, making sure each piece has at least one bud. Let the pieces dry for a few days to heal the cut surfaces.
- Prepare a pot with well-draining and fertile soil. You can use a potting mix that contains peat, bark, and sand. The pot should be at least 12 inches wide and have drainage holes at the bottom.
- Plant the ginger pieces about 2 inches deep in the soil, with the buds facing up. Water the soil lightly and place the pot in a warm and sunny spot, but avoid direct sunlight. Ginger likes temperatures between 70°F and 90°F (21°C and 32°C).
