Lady’s finger (okra)
Lady’s finger (okra), is classified as a fruit, that is mostly grown in the worm and tropical climates like Africa and south Asia.
It is used as a vegetable in cooking, this is common in most African countries where it is either eaten raw or cooked as soup.
Okra is packed with a lot of nutrients like calories, protein, fiber, and vitamins A, C, K, and B6. Being an excellent source of vitamin C and K1 has contributed to immune function and blood clotting.
This plant is also beneficial in weight management, blood sugar control, bone structure, and body mass.
Okra is rich in antioxidants that may reduce your risk of serious diseases, prevent inflammation, and contribute to overall health. Most notably, it contains polyphenols that may contribute to heart and brain health.
This plant contains a protein called lectin, which is being studied for its role in cancer prevention and treatment. More human research is needed.
It also contains Folate which is recommended for pregnant women. It helps lower the risk of a neural tube defect, which affects the brain and spine of a developing fetus.
